We are rapidly nearing the point of no return, where we cannot even pay the interest on our debts. It must stop now. A huge portion of our debt is owned by the Middle-East, which we gave them for oil anyway. Perhaps writing off that part is in order, considering how much it has cost us to keep them from killing each other. Let them help pay their own maintenance costs.

Don’t think we really have enough money to pay our debts or cover our expenses? Not so. Corporations have so much money they don’t even know what to do with it. We even have bankrupt airlines buying other bankrupt airlines. What’s up with that? The problem is, that when trying to actually tax the rich, the corporations, they hire lobbyists and lawyers and whine about all hell breaking loose if we cut their profit margins and annoy their share-holders. Well, just where did all those profits come from anyway? From my hard-working aching back is where. Time to re-allocate and re-prioritize. The big multinational firms are making huge profits, and not paying a dime.

The only reason we have a deficit at all is because the Government has stopped taxing the people with money. That, and the people they do tax (us) simply don’t have any. Once I straighten out our paycheck problems and start requiring corporations and the rich to pay their fair share, there will be no deficit problems.

I will cut the size of the Federal government. My target is a 20% reduction in size and cost. Yes, that much. More in some places, less in others.

I will use the GAO. This lovely little government entity, if the Republicans haven’t abolished it yet, provides us with detailed reports on waste and fraud. It’s their job to find out what’s wrong. It’s my job to fix what’s wrong.

Earmarks and Pork will be painful for their originators. I will keep track of who is adding what and how much to the budget. Their status on my good-boy/bad-boy list will be updated appropriately. Beyond this, I’ll push for line-item veto. The Republicans wanted this so they could cut Democratic pork and add more of their own. I want it to cut everybody’s pork. Let them chew on shoe leather for a while.

What would really work well here, is a bill to automatically raise business taxes to cover the previous year’s deficit. Talk about motivation to keep within budget! It’s business that has the money to pay the lobbyists, who will scream bloody murder at deficits just to keep business taxes down. I like this...
