in a lot of things.
Miscellaneous doesn’t necessarily mean unimportant...
Hiring Quotas: Whether racial, gender or otherwise, this is all just discrimination. I will end this practice.
Gun Control: You can have my gun when you pry it from my cold dead hands. In other words, no.
Reparations for Slavery: No.
Patents: Are hindering progress. They’re just too long. I will cut this time down to five years. That’s more than enough time to recover the research investment and make oodles of money. We must progress.
Copyrights: Again, too long. I will cut this time down to five years as well. I realize the importance of recouping an investment, and protecting an asset, but not forever.
Music: Is meant to be shared. Two years copyright is more than sufficient time to make your money. After that, it’s free to be copied, played and used by anyone for any purpose, public domain. I will make sharing stereo mp3s for personal use perfectly legal. If you want the real version, the DVD-audio crystal-clear version, to play at home, you can buy it.
Movies: Again, you can’t hold onto these Copyrights forever. After five years they’ll be public domain.
Internet: There’s a lot of crap going on here. Namely, web sites are being held responsible and being sued for content they can’t control. That can’t work. How is Youtube responsible when one of its users uploads an offensive video? Do they have to pre-screen all their content? Do they have to know all the laws in each and every state? Do they have to know all the laws in each and every country? Right now they do. Yes. That’s not right. It’s forcing the web service providers into a law enforcement and policing position. Do we really need more nannies? Hell no. What I propose is having a universal complaint processing center. Users and/or law enforcement can report violations, and the processing center will work with the web service provider to remove the offending material (if it’s found to be illegal). Web service providers provide content. You can filter out what you don’t want. Meaning, that other countries cannot impose their laws on our web sites either. They can set up filters to not allow certain content into their country if they want, but the web must be free to do what the web does best. I will ensure its freedom.
Our food supply is sacred, and I will do all I can to keep it healthy. And there is just no way in Hell I’m going to allow irradiated food into the system. That is just too freaking stupid to even comprehend how it even got started. “Hey, let’s zap this stuff with enough radiation to scramble all the molecules inside to kill any and every living and non-living thingy that might be inside. Then we’ll eat it.” Who was the nut-case who came up with that? Geez. April-07 And now they’re considering a billl to remove the “irradiated” label, so you won’t know, and you won’t have a choice. Nice.
Payday Loans: Who the hell gave the banks permission to get into the loan-shark business? This is all wrong. This used to be totally illegal. People used to go to jail for this kind of behavior, and rightly so. They will again.
Government Computing: I am going to investigate a move to Apple or Linux. Maintenance of Windows costs an absolutely absurd fortune. I want a simple, clean, reliable system that doesn’t crap all over itself. I want near zero maintenance.
Line Item Veto: I need this to help fight bad attachments to good bills. Currently, a very good well-intentioned bill can be presented, but both the House and Senate along with numerous other committees get a chance to add crap to it. In general, they add crap up to the point where the original good bill will barely pass a vote. The better the original bill, the more crap they can tack onto it. Line item veto allows the President to simply remove the crap. If it’s not crap, a 66% vote can overturn the veto for that item. This should be for the duration of my term only. This is a very dangerous weapon in the hands of a two-party system. Be thankful neither the Republicans or the Democrats have it now. But in the hands of a Moderate, there is so much good that can be done.
Rise in Autism: Here’s a dirty little secret that no one wants you to know... Yes, the rise in autism in this (and other) countries is directly related to childhood vaccinations. I’ve seen evidence of it personally, three times, with my own children. I’ve watched them have nasty reactions to the shots, sometimes DTP, sometimes MMR, that cause them to regress in their mental development by months. I watched in pain as they again took months to get over it and catch back up to where they were before the shots. Now don’t get me wrong, the alternative of no shots at all is even worse. Ask any Doctor about childhood before immunizations. What I am saying, is that a lot more research needs to go into making these shots a whole hell of a lot safer. They’ve already fixed the DTP with the new DTaP. Now I want the MMR fixed.
Commercials: Can you believe we suffer through 12 or more minutes of TV commercials an hour? Can you believe that we allow our children to be bombarded like this too? And these marketers have gotten good, really good. It’s no wonder the average American has a near-zero savings rate. I’m thinking that throttling the number and duration of commercials on TV would not be a bad thing. In fact, yes. It’s just gotten out of control. I will put a hard limit of 6 minutes per hour. That’s about all I can tolerate.
MSG: Monsodium Glutamate. I can’t count the number of times this crap has kept me awake at night. Banned, once and for all. And if I find any in the White House kitchen, I’ll fire the entire staff.
Gifts: This president accepts gifts! Hey, what do you think I’m made of money or something? Not. The caveat is, that gifts must be *after* I’ve done something, in appreciation. If you offer gifts in advance, or even imply a gift, then it’s a bribe. I want no outside influence in my decision-making process. That I may have done something for you means that it was the right thing to do and it was going to happen regardless. Got it? I’m clean, and will stay that way. But my wife does love the occasional shiny bauble... :)
Pet Peeve: Store bought tomatoes. They look so good, red and round... But inside they’re nasty, chewy, tasteless little imposters. And at three bucks a pound, that’s just wrong. Guess that’s why I grow my own...
