Twenty-somethings

in planning ahead.

You’re young and single, and for the most part probably wondering what everyone is whining about. Well, think about it a sec... We’re all whining that it’s bad and that it’s getting worse. Why should you care? Because you’re going to inherit this mess. A bigger mess, actually. You may not care now. But you will. Big time.

Your future is getting grimmer by the minute.
Give a crap now, and I can turn things around.

I can see by the polls that you’re a lot of optimists. That’s good. Fully 50% of you believe you will strike it rich. The other 50% believe you will be happy. Oh to be so young and naive again... The facts are, if you look at the trends in income and benefits over the last 20 years, is that: 50% of you will be dirt poor and miserable. 25% of you will be able to afford to live on your own, with a roommate to help you afford a tiny little apartment, but no car, so you’ll be riding the bus. Another 20% might be able to afford your own apartment and a car, but not much more. That last 5% may be lucky enough to afford a house. But even for you, you won’t be able to afford to send your kids to college, or to take care of them properly. Don’t believe me? Do your homework and look at the trends in income and benefits over the last 20 years. Look at the trends in costs of health care and education over the last 20 years. Extrapolate out 15-20 years. Now do you see? I’m not lying.

Your future is getting grimmer by the minute.
Give a crap now, and I can turn things around.

Get it yet? Maybe I should repeat myself again...

Your future is getting grimmer by the minute.
Give a crap now, and I can turn things around.

Now you’ve got it. Right?

Good.
